The “HACK4YOUTH” Hackathon, July 21-23rd, was an inspiring collaborative event where participants shared information, ideas, and skills to unlock the potential of technology with creativity and develop innovative mobile app solutions that could change the way the youth understood reproductive health.
Organized by UNFPA’s Innovation Fund and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the Hackathon took place at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala. Over 80 young people from around the world, along with innovators, front-end developers, back-end developers and partners, gathered to combine talents, push boundaries, and spark innovative ideas with the challenge to develop mobile solutions promoting young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Participants, working in groups of 7, explored innovative solutions and quality ideas to improve young people’s health. After three days, they presented their prototyped applications to judges who evaluated the solutions and selected the winner.
The winning project, “Tri Givia,” presented by Team “Put it On” and managed by the project manager, was praised for its exceptional potential. The application, named for 3G(Tri) and Giving(Givia), is an incentive quiz/game with points to inform young people about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and dispel myths/misinformation, targeting the EECA region. Completing the quiz rewards users with free internet access.
We’re proud of our employee, Jordan Atanasovski, for being part of the winning team. His success at the “HACK4YOUTH” Hackathon motivates us to further invest in our employees, encouraging them to develop innovative ideas that can change lives and improve society.
Axeltra supports Hackathon events as breeding grounds for great ideas that surprise and delight. The event was about connecting creative minds, sharing knowledge, learning from each other, tackling challenges, and delivering applications that make genuine differences to young people’s reproductive health community.
